That's no aspersion against those who don't do so: it's just not what floats everyone's boat.

Again, I appreciate your touching base, since this blog doesn't get a lot of comments-- doubtless because it's fairly esoteric in nature.

I'll check out some of the other blogs you mentioned for sure.Gene Phillipshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11495562795211277146noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-460474552118769771.post-21045660948539961542014-10-08T02:00:27.753-07:002014-10-08T02:00:27.753-07:00Thank you, Gene. These Google dashboard blogs (sic?) are fun, and you're linked with me to the A Thriller A Day, We Are Controlling Transmission (The Outer Limits) and a Kraft Suspense Theater blog that seems practically moribund.

The CHFB, like my other classic film "home of the 'net", the IMDB, is becoming too bogged down in Blu-Ray and DVD talk, announcements about new releases of classic and new films, pictures. There's less actual film talk, a lot more information sharing of the "wasup?" kind that I generally steer clear of. We live in a society driven by money and, especially, consumerism, and the latter has begun to mar even the best film sites. Sad. We have to keep up the good fight to keep the places we go to on point, about films.john kenrickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00710666533854296630noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-460474552118769771.post-31224821208541047112014-10-06T15:22:21.003-07:002014-10-06T15:22:21.003-07:00You're welcome, and I appreciate your comments...You're welcome, and I appreciate your comments.Gene Phillipshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11495562795211277146noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-460474552118769771.post-13747694974939475712014-10-05T02:10:20.626-07:002014-10-05T02:10:20.626-07:00Fine film, courtesy of Paramount's soon to be ...Fine film, courtesy of Paramount's soon to be closed down B unit, which produced a lot of first rate noir, westerns, thrillers and adventure stories but relatively few (any?) horrors aside from the late in the day The Monster And The Girl. It's a B and looks like one, but like the Fox Chans and Universal Sherlock Holmes pictures, it's a first class B all the way, featuring a fine cast.and high quality photography and art direction.

The story starts out one way, takes some VERY unpredictable twists and turns (even as its title "gives it away"), and it ends on a note that I found very moving the first time I saw it, and it still works. At a certain level it's a moral tale about the perils of going to the big city for not only small town girls but their straight arrow 4H brother. These two were in way over their head in the picture, as was, in a different way, George Zucco's doctor, played, amazingly, as not so much mad as misguided.

As to Charles Gemora's gorilla, it's from what I've heard his favorite ape performance, permitting him to do more than just grunt and break people's necks or stomp them to death. He emotes very well with just his eyes. There's a little something for everyone for the viewer, even some low comedy. Lead players Ellen Drew and Phillip Terry never made the top cut even as the cult level. The crooks were a nice mix of types, more diverse than in most films about criminals. This is a movie well worth discussing, and discussing seriously, and I thank you for your write-up.john kenrickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00710666533854296630noreply@blogger.com
